1. MAKING THE APPOINTMENT
Once you have made the decision, together with your spouse, civil partner or partner if you have one, call us to arrange an appointment. We will arrange to visit you in your own home at a time that is convenient, including evenings and weekends.
2. DECIDING WHO GETS WHAT
After the appointment has been arranged, you will need to do a little preparation. In confirming the date and time by letter, we send you our terms of engagement together with our fee scales and an aide-memoire. In particular the latter prompts you to decide to whom you want to leave your assets or specific gifts. For example, as well as immediate family, you may want a favourite charity or a godchild to benefit. You will need to take into account all you own from property to personal effects.
3. GIVING YOUR INSTRUCTIONS
At the appointment, which usually takes around two hours, you tell us how you want your estate to be divided and specify who gets what. We are happy to guide and inform. We will also advise you how best to protect your assets, for example from inheritance tax if appropriate, and take your instructions down in writing.
4. HOW YOUR WILL IS DRAWN UP
Once we have your instructions, we draft your Will and any other documents, such as a Lasting Power of Attorney, in strict accordance with your instructions into legally binding deeds.
5. YOUR WILL IS READY!
It usually takes up to 10 working days to produce the documents, (but we can turn documents around in 24 hours, at no extra charge, if circumstances merit it). A date and time is arranged for us to return to you for the signing and witnessing of the documents. We explain the content and ensure that you are happy and understand it. Most people request that we safe store the originals and if that is agreed we provide you with copies to enable you to refer to from time to time.
